Located on the waterfront in Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard sits the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. The 10-story, 132-bed teaching hospital has a façade consisting of brick, curtainwall, storefront and architectural paneling. Due to the hospital occupancy and exposure to the open ocean, larger than normal seismic and wind forces were considered and presented a unique challenge to the designers. Renovation of the wharf, alternative energy sources and green roofs are certain elements of the LEED Gold hospital. As a state of the art rehabilitation facility, patients are exposed to treatments utilizing resistance pools, full size lap pools, gymnasiums, healing gardens and the highly renowned Gait Lab.
Liberty Mutual’s Headquarters at 175 Berkeley Street expanded the Boston-based company’s campus. The 23-story, 795,000 SF Class A+ office building combines historic elements with innovative new construction. The building’s triangular massing and curved edges respond to the site’s diagonal street grid. An Indiana limestone façade complements the restored Salada Tea historic headquarters, located just across the street. A glass-enclosed pedestrian bridge over Stuart Street links the new building to the existing headquarters, which was also renovated. The new structure includes four stories below-grade with parking and one service level. A two-story cafeteria and two-story conference center provide large spaces for employees.
Since 2002, McNamara Salvia has been the engineer-of-record at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Home of the Boston Red Sox since its opening in 1912, it is the oldest ballpark in MLB. Through decades of use and evolving amenities, Fenway Park has undergone years of renovation to improve accessibility, replace and add signage, and increase capacity. We have designed the iconic 37-foot-high Green Monster Seats in left field and the Budweiser Deck in right field. We have fixed an array of deferred maintenance in the original stadium as a comprehensive historic restoration. Our work has and continues to preserve the history and character of the ballpark while creating a venue that supports both the team and their fan base.
Waterside Place is a 20-story residential building located in Boston’s Seaport District. The 350,000 SF tower was constructed over the I-90 extension to the Ted Williams Tunnel. The residential program contains 236 units accompanied by 10,000 SF of ground-floor retail offerings. Amenities include a 7,000 SF Innovation Center for start-up companies, a fitness center, lounges, and two expansive green roof decks. In addition, 140 vehicle spaces are located on site in an above-grade parking garage.
