The Modern Theatre, originally built in 1876 and deemed a Boston Landmark, was fully renovated and transformed to enter its new era for Suffolk University. After years of neglect, only the Modern Theatre’s façade could be salvaged and recreated. The stones and materials from the building were dismantled one by one and refurbished before being reassembled. A 185-seat theater, two-story lobby, and gallery sit within the building’s footprint, plus a new setback vertical addition to house residential space. The 10-story addition created 197 suite-styled units for students.
