Structural health monitoring (SHM), similar to human health monitoring, is a process of establishing vital characteristics of a structure and checking these vitals periodically or after a significant event the structure suffers. A comparison with the baseline vitals reveals whether the structure’s health is as in good condition as it was when the baseline vitals were established. If not, the recent vitals might be used to locate the source of the change, most likely a structural damage. SHM is mostly commonly used for building and bridges.
