RH Boston (Restoration Hardware) is located within the refurbished New England Museum of Natural History in Boston’s Back Bay. The 40,000 SF building is home to RH’s Design Gallery spanning all four stories. Originally built in 1863, this renovation consisted of repairing and replacing elements, while maintaining the character of the historic building. The property was stripped back to its old walls after being modified for previous retail tenants. The mezzanines and dividing walls were removed, the atrium was opened so the original vaulted ceilings could be visible from the ground-level and a 70-foot steel-caged glass elevator was constructed as the central focal point. The original beauty was returned to the structure in this overhaul.
