The Natick Mall renovation and expansion transformed the suburban mall into a two-story, high-end retail center. Studies were performed to keep the mall operational and build-over, but the owner ultimately decided to demolish, rebuild, and add an extension to the north which resulted in a curvy, T-shaped floor plan. With the addition of 100 stores and 550,000 SF of space, the Natick Mall became—and still is—the largest mall in New England at 1,860,000 SF. Undulating and vaulted ceilings with arched skylights were inspired by the word Natick, meaning “place of the rolling hills” in Native American. In addition to the mall upgrades, luxury condominiums and a parking garage were constructed on site.
