The Central Heating Plant at the University of Massachusetts Amherst consists of a 45,000 SF building that provides 70% of electricity and 100% of steam for the 10,000,000 SF campus. It is steel-framed and features a glass wall facing the south to reduce heating costs in the winter. The plant includes a braced and moment frame lateral system with perimeter sloped columns in a “V” formation. The curved roof height reaches 56 feet over the tanks and equipment.
